Meulaboh City

Aceh Barat with the town of Meulaboh is located on the western part of the Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province and is one of several regions in western-part of Aceh coastal area (Nagan Raya, Calang, Teunom, LokNga, etc.), which were massively damaged by the Tsunami in December 2004.

Aceh Barat District it self consists of 11 Sub-districts with 12 Puskesmas (public health centers). The population in Aceh Barat District before the tsunami was 113,436 people, 26,117 households, according to the Asian Development Bank (2003). UNHIC and the Government of Indonesia reported 17,564 died because of the tsunami in Meulaboh city and surrounding areas; 80,251 were reported displaced and spread in many locations throughout all the districts of Aceh Barat.
